Making memories

When a loved one passes away the first thing you do is bathe yourself in your memories of them.  You remember the good and the bad times and the moments that made you laugh, cry, feel sad and angry.  Your memories take over and all you have left of them are MEMORIES.  Making memories is vital for a healthy relationship.

Possessions never last.  They are too soon forgotten about, thrown out, sold, left behind or passed on.  We can't take possessions with us when we move around or move on.  Will you remember all the trinkets your loved one owned or will you remember how they made you feel and the memories they leave behind?

Success is not measure by your net worth.  Success is not measured by how many possessions you own or whether you own the latest toys and gadgets.  Success is measured by how happy you are and how you made others feel.  You can always make money buy you can't always make memories.  "A rich man is nothing but a poor man with money" - W.C Fields.

Start making memories today and plan for your next getaway.  There are millions of magical memories just waiting to be made right here in our own backyard.

Dr Seuss knew what he was talking about when he coined the phrase "Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory".

In our '6 Steps to Rekindling Your Romance' eBook we talk about how you can take commitment to a higher level and we also ask you to focus on your priorities and spend a few minutes writing down what yours are.  Looking at the graphic above, what is the priority order of your relationship?  Order them from 1-10.  What is number 1?  For some people their priority order looks like this:

  1. Career
  2. Children
  3. Husband/Wife/Relationship
  4. Religion
  5. Hobbies/Sports
  6. House/Housework
  7. Savings
  8. Car/Insurance

We believe that in order for a healthy relationship, Relationship should be number 1.  If the relationship is given the priority it deserves then all else will fall into place and be in a healthy position too.  If you are having problems in your relationship then you are more likely to have problems in other areas of your life as well.  Take the time to sit down with your partner and rate your relationship.

Write a list of things you can do to improve the quality of your relationship.  Think about the situations where you’ve attempted to add romance to a situation and it was unsuccessful.  Write down what both of you did and why the attempt didn’t work.  You may start to see a pattern.

Do you have any complaints in your relationship? Keep it simple and put them into 3 categories; those you can change, those that can’t and those that need discussion.  Calmly discuss these complaints, don’t attack each other and focus on the goal to narrow down the list to one of two manageable changes. Set reasonable expectations, don’t blame each other and don’t create a negative atmosphere as negativity will only deplete your energy.

In doing this activity, you are both acknowledging the problems and working pro actively to solve them.  Together you can achieve wonderful things, alone you cannot.

In what order are your priorities, feel free to write them in the comment box below.
